New Year's Eve Makeup Tips & Tricks | Best, Holidays

As promised, I wanted to bring you guys a couple tips and tricks on how to look fabulous tonight while ringing in the new year. I'm going to start by listing a few of my own tips and then follow up with some great New Year's Eve makeup tutorials from some of my favorite YouTubers. Let's get started; after all we only have a few hours before you have to get ready!

  • Prime it up! Whether you have oily skin or not, primer will be your wingman tonight. I typically only do my eye makeup so I'll only be using an eyelid primer, but for my ladies who use foundation make sure to use a face primer to keep everything in place. You want your gorgeous face to be sweatproof, cryproof, glitterproof, alcoholproof...you get the idea.
  • Shine bright. New Year's Eve is one of the few times where it's widely acceptable to go a little crazy with the glitter. Since I personally don't dabble in the sparkle often, I'm beyond ready to go all out tonight. Use glitter glue, extra eyelid primer, or even eyelash glue to give something for your glitter to adhere to.
  • Prepare for lift off. Some girls choose false eyelashes that look like they're ready to fly away, however, there's definitely a way to wear lashes tastefully. New Year's Eve is the perfect time to experiment. In fact, this will be my first time trying out false eyelashes and I couldn't be more excited. I've done plenty of research, so little tip: look for a lash glue with nylon. It makes it a lot easier to remove at the end of the night.
My number one tip for New Year's Eve glam? Be comfortable! If you aren't into foundation, glitter, and false eyelashes, then don't do it. It's always obvious on a girl's face if she's out of her element. On the other hand, it's equally apparent if a girl is completely comfortable in her own skin and nothing is sexier than confidence.

In addition, here are of my favorite New Year's Eve makeup tutorials. It seems this year instead of just focusing on gold, silver, and related hues, women are branching out and incorporating color into their looks. That may be something you would like to try as well!

Have a happy and safe New Year's night! I love you all, thank you so much for supporting me throughout 2013 and I can't wait to grow with you in 2014!

Best,
Jordan

Sweater Weather Tag | Best, Holidays

Before winter officially starts on the 20th, I thought this would be fun.
  1. Favorite candle scent? Frosted Cranberry from Bath and Body Works. It's not too sweet and it's subtle enough that you can burn it all day.
  2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate? It really depends on my mood but it's always between coffee and tea for me. Usually coffee wins out.
  3. What's the best fall memory you have?
  4. Which makeup trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged liner? While I've been loving dark lips right now, I would have to say winged liner. After all, I don't feel like rocking a bold lip everyday but a winged liner is classic and can be worn a lot more often.
  5. Best fragrance for fall? I actually don't have one right now, but I am on the hunt so if you have any suggestions let me know!
  6. Favorite Thanksgiving food? Absolutely nothing beats my dad's cornbread stuffing. If he doesn't make it, in my opinion, Thanksgiving isn't even happening.
  7. What is autumn weather like where you live? Well I go to school in Philadelphia, but live in Washington, DC. Being just a few hours apart, the weather is pretty similar: cold. If there is a snow storm in Philly, then usually my family back home is hit too.
  8. Most worn sweater? I wear this cream and black tribal print sweater from Forever 21 all the time. It's so thick and cozy, I just throw it on over anything.
  9. Must-have nail polish this fall? I really want to try grey nails...I don't know why...but I think that would be hot.
  10. Football games or jumping in leaf piles? Football games...until it gets cold. Jumping in leaf piles looks cute until you get particles stuck all in your hair.
  11. Skinny jeans or leggings? Both. On the coldest days I will put a pair of leggings on under my skinny jeans in a heartbeat.
  12. Combat boots or Uggs? Combat boots, but I only say that because I've never owned a pair of Uggs. I do want the mini ones in chestnut though.
  13. Is pumpkin spice worth the hype? I wouldn't know because I haven't tried it...probably because of the hype. I'm not anti-pumpkin spice I just never cared enough to try it. Maybe I'll do that soon.
  14. Favorite fall TV show? American Horror Story, Scandal, and Parenthood. I love them all.
  15. What song really gets you into the fall spirit? I'm not sure anyone really has one of these. Most radio stations skip right to playing Christmas music after Halloween. I say this all the time but Thanksgiving should really have a song.
You guys read about me and what I like all the time, but I want to know more about you! Tell me some of your favorite sweater weather traditions in the comments below or on Twitter.

Winter Essentials | Best, Holidays

I figured the most appropriate way to jump start this holiday beauty series would be to talk about all of the things I keep near and dear to my heart during the winter months. It may not be a mile-long list, but these items are definitely essential to my winter survival. And yes, it's that serious.

  • Body butter is the number one thing I'm always itching to break out once it starts getting colder and probably the only thing I look forward to about the temperature dropping. Find a body butter with a great scent and you've got yourself a powerhouse. A deep moisturizing cream that delivers an all day fragrance? Where do I sign up? My favorite: http://bit.ly/1d9zskw
  • Vitamin E oil is honestly something I use year-round but it definitely comes in handy during the winter. Mixing in oil with your favorite lotion is great for combating dry winter skin, but vitamin E oil is exceptionally effective. In addition to adding moisture, vitamin E oil has the added benefit of reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks, and evens complexion. My favorite: http://bit.ly/1bymwC0
  • Lip balm...I know, duh. But in all honesty, I've seen more cracked and peeling lips than ever this season. That has to be unhealthy. Our lips have less layers than our skin so if it's easy for our skin to dry out during the winter, imagine what our lips must be going through. Also, keeping your lips soft makes for a more even application of your favorite lip stick. My favorite: http://bit.ly/1j012bb
  • Travel size lotion is, again, another 'duh' product that people seem to neglect. It's also one of the easiest and least expensive. I don't know about you, but for me just stepping outside can cause my knuckles to turn white...which is always so attractive against dark skin. Plus, if you're a smell-good junkie, choosing a mini lotion with a nice scent is a great way to add moisture and freshen up throughout the day. My favorite: http://tgt.biz/19k30gF
  • Dark lip color is so cliche and yet so necessary. My friends will tell you I've been on the hunt for a great dark berry lip. After about four weeks and three lipsticks later, I have finally found my match. I don't know what it is, but something the lower temperatures just makes a girl want to bring out her vampy side. There's nothing wrong with that! My favorite: http://bit.ly/Jiptky in Black Cherry
What are some of the things you can't live without during the winter? I'd love to know. Share in the comments below or chat with me on Twitter

Postcards From Philly | 1

I don't want to call this a series, but I suppose that is what it would be considered. Postcards From Philly will simply be a letter to all of you when I just want to sit down and share what has been going on in my life.

You may (or may not) have noticed that I've been away for a while. Well, that would be because I still have yet to master the art of juggling an overflowing work load and blogging. But I've got to say, I've missed you guys.

During this little hiatus, I could not stop thinking about the blog and all the things I would love to put in place. This month will be the beginning of plenty of great things to come for Best, Jordan. I can't wait to let you in on these surprises, but you'll just have to wait a bit longer.

One thing I can tell you now is that I'll be starting a holiday series this week! This is my first one and I'm so excited! While I already have some things in the works, I want to know what you want to see. If you need outfit ideas for New Year's Eve or even tips to avoid awkward questions from relatives tell me and I'll be happy to help!

Leave your suggestions in the comments below or tweet your suggestions to me @JordanCathleen_.
